Vigilante is one of those rare books that manages to be both thought provoking and a fast paced thrill ride. While reading it i was caught up in the mission and passion of Nolan Gray. I felt as if i was there with him in the final confrontation with his enemy.I've been a fan of superhero stories and movies since I was a kid, but one question has always bothered me. That question is WHY? Why do superheroes do what they do? What motivates them to continue fighting evil when everything is against them? For Nolan Gray the answer is a personal faith in Jesus. His convictions lead him to come up with a plan to fight evil and they mold his conduct in the fight. However, this isn't what I would call a "Christian book". The story is a thrill ride that will be enjoyed by any reader who likes action/adventure stories. Nolan's faith is integral to the story but it doesn't dominate it.
To fight evil Nolan becomes a superhero along the lines of Batman. He has no super powers, but does possess almost superhuman strength, agility, and reflexes. Like Batman he uses a few tools to aid him in this fight.
Like most superheroes Nolan refuses to take a life. Tension builds up to the end of this book where Nolan is forced by circumstances to change his tactics. The author leaves it up to the reader to decide whether this was right or wrong. Even after I finished the book I still wondered whether he made the right moral choice. The story makes you think.
This is not a book for the queasy. There are some scenes of graphic violence that could unsettle some people.
I wouldn't call this Science fiction. The tools Nolan uses are vaguely futuristic, but not very far out. It also has little in common with the other two Dangerous Times books. They both dealt with a kind of supernatural sci-fi. Vigilante does not.

Interestingly full of believable bad guys, flustered police and bungling government agencies. Then there is the main character, who seems to have nine lives.
Enjoyable read that grabs you and makes you want to continue reading due to events beyond endurance.
I didn't really like this book. The writing seemed choppy, although the story idea seemed captivating.
Wow, I am still trying to wrap my mind around this tale... It picks you up and picks up speed along the way until you are flying through the pages and hanging on because you are not sure where it will take you next!
Parrish steps out of the norm and challenges us to think and to question our motives, hearts, right/wrong... and he tops it all off with grace. Bravo!
If your looking for an exciting read this is it!
Having just finished book 3 of the Dangerous Times collection by Robin Parrish, I realized I was in danger. Danger of never reading 3 books in a row that took me away from everything & everyone. Danger of forever comparing Parrish's novels to others only to find them lacking in spellbinding, finger numbing, mind blowing tension. Never have I thought I enjoyed Danger...until now. Dangerous Times? Indeed.
Vigilante was a fast paced book and a wonderful read since I love super heros. Nolan is a hero with a heart, who wants to make the world a better place at all costs. He is a war hero who has seen too much of what evil can do. In order to make a difference he fakes his death and becomes a Vigilante who the public dubs "The Hand". I loved the story even though I have to say there are parts that were a bit unbelievable...but it is a superhero story so I suppose anything is possible. Either way, it is a touching story that keeps your heart pounding the whole way.
Poorly written. Looked like the work of a 9th grade student. Needed an editor to catch spelling and grammatical errors.
Robin Parrish does it again. This story follows the journey of a war hero who sacrifices his identity, his whole life, to become a shadowy vigilante crime fighter. Nolan Gray exists in a world that really needs a hero - somebody to take a stand. To me, the feeling of this book was similar to that of the Christopher Nolan Batman films - especially Batman Begins, but this is in no way `copycat fiction'.
I absolutely loved the character dynamics between Nolan and the other three characters that made up his team. Something made me just want to go and live with them all in their abandoned subway station under the city.
This was an intelligent deep story filled with suspense, heart-ache, and excitement that never rarely lets up. The book asks some very difficult questions, and doesn't provide any pat answers. There is still some doubt left in the protagonists mind at the end regarding the things he has done - but this just leads more powerfully to the thematic climax which points directly to the Bible as the best place to go for our answers.
Vigilante does not have any sci-fi or fantasy elements, but it is set in an `alternate timeline' - although I'm not sure this was entirely necessary for the story to work.
